Power plant San Marco Bioenergie at Bando d’Argenta

The company San Marco Bioenergie SpA, belonging to Gruppo Bioenergie, is entrusted with the management of the biomass power plant at Bando d’Argenta (FE).

The Bando power plant, with the installed power of about 20 net MW, is the biggest among the biomass ones in northern and central Italy and with its net electrical efficiency of over 25% ranks among the most efficient plants of its kind.

The yearly energy production, of about 160,000 MWh is equivalent to the requirements of around 27,000 inhabitants. The power plant is composed by two identical lines with a capacity of about 10 net electrical MW each based on the consolidated technology of mobile grate combustion. Each of the two lines is equipped with a vapour ganerator with the capacity of 46 tons/hour of overheated vapour, with a condensation turbine and related electrical generator, and with emission abatement systems in the atmosphere (electrostatic filter, DeNOx system type SNCR with urea injection, bicarbonate injection) in line with the best available technologies (BAT).
The biomass used as fuel is virgin and of vegetal origin and comes from dedicated cultivations, residues of agro-industrial processes and maintenance interventions either of woods or of public and private parks and gardens.

The quantity used per year indicatively varies from about 230,000 tons to 280,000 tons, from the energetic point of view equivalent to around 60,000 TOE (Tons of Oil Equivalent), depending on the type and the humidity of the conferred biomass.

The attainment of excellence in the environmental and safety field represents one of the most important goals for the Power Plant of Bando, which to this end is equipped with a specific Monitoring and Control Plan, it too in line with BAT and turned out to be in the forefront for this type of plants. The plant works according to severe and innovative procedures of origin qualificationand of biomass acceptance, defined according to the type of provisioned biomass.

Just for this reason, in 2009 it attained the certifications ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001.
