Established in 1997, Biomasse Italia SpA represents a reference point in the national survey of the production of electrical energy from renewable sources (solid biomasses) in the full respect of the environment, a company aware of its industrial and technological role in the development of the national energetic policy, oriented towards a sustainable energetic provisioning system in the long period.

Biomasse Italia SpA holds the first places among the private enterprises located in Calabria in the sector of the production of electrical energy from renewable sources.

Strongoli power plant uses an advanced technology and for this reason it is classifiable as the biggest and most up-to-date plant in Europe.

The current productive structure has an overall capacity of inlet into the national Net of 40 MW.

The power plant has been functioning since 2003. The main fuel used is biomass consisting of wood chips coming from wood maintenance operations and agroalimentary residues.

The yearly consumes of biomass correspond to 450,000 tons.
